Q&A

What type of insurance do you take and do I need a script from my physician?

Blue Cross Blue Shield (PPO plans). Due to Direct Access in Illinois, only some plans require a script from your physician (i.e. MD, DO). Our team will verify your insurance and let you know if you will need to reach out to your physician in order to receive a script for physical therapy.

What can I expect for my first visit?

Plan to arrive 10 minutes early to your first appointment in order to make sure all the paperwork is complete and we can start your visit on time. Your first visit will last about an hour and will include both an evaluation and treatment that is applicable to your injury. Your physical therapist will create an individualized treatment program based off of your goals for return to activity, as well as give you a timeline of what your recovery will look like.

What can I expect for my follow up visits?

Each session your physical therapist will re-evaluate your progress and provide hands on one-on-one care. Your physical therapist will be able to address any questions or concerns, as well as explain any objective changes and activity limitations. Most physical therapy sessions will last around an hour.

What should I wear?

Please wear athletic wear and clothing that can be easily moved. As for footwear, make sure you are ready to be able to assess any movement by wearing athletic shoes.

Will you communicate directly with my doctor, coach, or parents?

Yes, your therapist will be able to communicate modifications, progress, or tentative timelines for return to play to your parents, coaches, or other medical professionals. Our Doctors of Physical Therapy believe in quality communication between the athlete's whole team in order to aide in the recovery process.

How will I know if I am progressing?

Your physical therapist will keep track of your progress through a series of objective tests and measures to assess any changes in progress that will effect the trajectory of your return to activity. They will have open and constant communication about your progress, strengths/weaknesses, and plan of care.

How will I be cleared to run or play sports again?

Our team stays up to date with the latest research for return to run, throwing, and sport following an injury. You will be put through a series of testing prior to receiving clearance to complete higher level activities, such as throwing, running, or returning with your team. Each athlete will receive individualized instructions and guidance based on their goals, sport, and recovery capabilities.

My child is under 18 years old, do I have to be at every appointment?

After signing a release you are not required to attend the full length of each session but will be informed of any updates or need for parental intervention for compliance.
